emotions and sketches

In order to decide emotions, I ‘ve looked Paul Ekman and Robert Plutchik’s classifications.

Paul Ekman

He is a psychologist who has been a pioneer in the study of emotions and their relation to facial expressions. According his observertions and researches, he concluded that the expressions associated with some emotions were basic or biologically universal to all humans. The following is Ekman’s (1972) list of basic emotions:

–        Anger

–        Disgust

–        Fear

–        Happiness

–        Sadness

–        Surprise

However in the 1990s Ekman expanded his list of basic emotions, including a range of positive and negative emotions not all of which are encoded in facial muscles. The newly included emotions are:

–        Amusement

–        Contempt

–        Contentment

–        Embarrasment

–        Excitement

–        Guilt

–        Pride in achievement

–        Relief

–        Satisfaction

–        Sensory pleasure

–        Shame

Robert Plutchik

(21 October 1927 – 29 April 2006) was professor emeritus at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and adjunct professor at the University of South Florida. He was also a psychologist.  Also his research interests include the study of emotions like Paul Ekman.

His list of emotions

I decided to make minimal designs and choose basic emotions to make it more understandable.
